Follow our step-by-step guide through a job, to get a feel for the way we work. It starts with the client brief…
Brainstorming, getting the synapses firing, talking about concepts and considering all the options.
Putting ideas down on paper and, subsequently, up on screen. Time to play with images and text, aiming to create something that packs the appropriate emotional punch.
Showing the client a range of concepts and explaining how each might be developed to fulfil the brief and go on working.
Building on the chosen theme, adding texture and definition and working towards the finished product.
Double-checking, proofreading, honing, refining
Making sure the end result meets our highest expectations; testing, inspecting, liaising with printers or manufacturers.
Attention to detail throughout – talking straight, meeting deadlines, ensuring quality. Happy client – good relationship – happy team.

Sue is a senior designer who has been working with the Kinetic team since early 2011. Born in Leicester and educated in Loughborough she moved to the South East after graduating from Loughborough College of Art and Design.
For the last 20 years, she has developed her design skills alongside a growing knowledge of business and marketing. Her portfolio includes work for a wide range of clients from tiny start-up companies to household name multi-nationals such as Adidas, Pentax and Volvo.
With a wealth of experience spanning the years from conventional, through to digitally- generated, artwork she believes good design is about more than design skills, technical know-how and the ability to work effectively to tight budgets. Good design is inspirational, insightful and focused.
Maria Brennan is the newest member of the Kinetic team.
Come back soon to read more about her.
Chris manages finance and cash flow at Kinetic.
Her extensive career in the financial sector had seen her working for large institutions such as The Prudential and The Nationwide Building Society as well as for a chain of service stations.
Over 30 years’ experience has given her more than enough financial grounding to assist a growing business in its development.
A founder member of Kinetic, Chris is the rock on which the creative energy stands. Her ability to budget, negotiate and untangle complex documentation is essential to Kinetic’s success, especially in a climate where value for money is key.
Alicia is an experienced designer who enjoys taking her creative thoughts from concept to conclusion.
A former resident of Germany and Canada, she is fluent in German and English.
Graduating in 2010 from Mannheim University, she pursued a career in the toys and games industry, landing a much sought-after internship at Ravensburger Spieleverlag, the largest games company in Germany. There she worked on various top-selling games for the European market.
After being highly recommended by the Creative Director at Ravensburger, Alicia completed a 3-month internship at Kinetic.
Her strong creative and technical talents, along with her approach to teamwork, led to the offer of a full time position and the wheels to relocate to the UK were put in motion.
Alicia joined Kinetic as a full time designer in 2011, bringing her continental flair to the team.
Shirley is Kinetic’s copywriter. Aside from writing new text – for brochures, adverts, websites, handbills, instruction leaflets, press releases – she edits client-provided copy and checks artwork before it leaves the studio.
Graduating from UEA with a degree in English Literature and History, she worked for Anglia Television, the ITV Network Centre and Sharp International Finance in roles that demanded close attention to detail and a high degree of organisational ability.
From 1999 she worked alongside members of the Kinetic team in a voluntary capacity, creating marketing material for local theatre groups. When redundancy freed her from corporate entanglement in 2006 she completed a diploma in copywriting and became a fully-fledged Kinetic employee.
Making each word count is the key to any marketing message. Set against considered designs, incisive text serves to strengthen impact and provoke a response; creativity in partnership.
Malcolm is Kinetic’s co-founder and Managing Director, responsible for new business development whilst remaining part of the creative team.
He studied at Leeds College of Art, developing skills in colour and space appreciation, drawing, and mastering the subtleties of letterforms and typography. He was inspired by Saul Bass and Abram Games in the dynamics of graphic design and illustrative communication.
From positions with various advertising and design agencies, he moved to Avon Cosmetics in Northampton and then to Avon Overseas, a specialist multi-national creative team in London. His international experience developed further at Maritz UK and then with MB Games, at the time of its launch into mainland Europe.
As joint creative director at Cunningham Wain he managed all forms of design from print to large-scale exhibitions. He was headhunted to spearhead Funhouse and The BrandWorks, to optimise his now extensive experience in design for children’s brands.
Jo Unwin is a creative Art Director who oversees team projects, taking them from concept through practical development to the end result.
She started her creative journey in 1998 after graduating in Scientific Illustration from Middlesex University. Early years working as an illustrator and mock-up maker served as a strong foundation as her career developed into the world of communication design.
Starting at ground level as a studio junior at a London agency, she strived to advance her position to that of a middleweight designer, working on accounts for Virgin, Thompson Holidays, Eden Vale, Mars and Pedigree.
In 1999 she sought to broaden her skills further by working as a freelance designer for a number of central London agencies, adding clients like Tesco, Disney and Hasbro to her portfolio.
When the time was right she joined the fledgling Kinetic and has used her knowledge and experience to develop new client relationships and nurture existing ones.
Her background of working with different creative disciplines has given her a rounded approach to problem solving, combining creativity with strategic thinking to produce tangible results for clients.
Will is Kinetic’s Creative Director, designing, account handling and overseeing all projects going through the studio.
He completed a year’s Foundation course in Art & Design at Middlesex Polytechnic and then a 4-year sandwich course in Graphic Information Design at Middlesex University, spending the 3rd year in Amsterdam, designing for BRS Premsela Vonk. He was a competition winner to design London Underground maintenance hoardings and is proud to have qualified for the Licentiate of Typographic Designers. He graduated with strong illustrative, typographic and communication skills, which he continues to use on a daily basis, and has a fascination for anything beautifully designed.
Will worked for the Times Warner owned book publisher, “Little, Brown”, designing book jackets and related marketing material.
A change of direction saw him move to a London-based “brand specialist” agency. Clients included Mars Confectionery, Virgin, Disney, Spears Games, Pedigree, Uncle Bens, Disneyland Paris and Ravensburger.
Will set up Kinetic MCD with Malcolm in 1999 to provide a personalised design service. He is proud to have developed Kinetic into a multi-skilled agency with the capacity to design for any industry.

We had to balance the brand’s light-hearted nature with its market position as a trustworthy, knowledgeable company.
Established brand consistency and a unique on-shelf presence.
We were asked to relaunch the BMW Technical Institute Training Scheme, in order to motivate the service technicians at dealerships nationwide.
Following the success of our F1-themed promotion for BMW’s recruitment programme, we decided to use a related theme to inspire new employees to move ‘into the fast lane’ with their training. We created awareness of the scheme with a presentation brochure, promotional print, infonet, wall charts, certification, badges and awards.
A 30% increase in applications in the first year.
Packaging design and product styling for Lotti Karotti “Action Game” in Germany.
It was critical to capture and communicate the “magic moment” in the game play. Creation, development and implementation of presenter characters were key elements to grab the consumer’s attention within 3-4 seconds in-store.
Sales have reached more than 5 million units. A range of action games is now distributed across numerous countries, each requiring language specific logo adaptation. Sales exceed 13 million units.
Create and implement SureCare’s marketing strategy, to keep the franchise and homecare sides of the business in full view of the public and support the company’s expansion strategy.
Enhancements to existing logos, coupled with innovative advertising and a new range of marketing material, started the brand invigoration. Redesigning the main website ensured message continuity.
Clear communication and a strong brand market presence for franchise sales and homecare delivery.
Darlac products regularly win Best Buy awards from independent product tests in popular gardening publications and the national press. The company needed a brand makeover, to capitalise on that recognition.
Brand re-envisioning started with logos for gardening equipment and watering products and moved on to encompass standout, informative packaging across the range of Darlac tools. Stylish catalogues and a new website take the Darlac brand to new markets.
A clear definition between the Professional and Expert Range, with the fresh new look proving to be a catalyst for growth.
Octagon wanted to appeal to new markets, whilst introducing its full range of services to existing private and commercial customers.
A complete brand overhaul, including attention-grabbing icons, retail brochures, website and shop front with interior design enhanced Octagon’s presence online and on the high street. The accompanying marketing campaign, comprising targeted leaflet drops and newspaper advertising, prompted local home and business owners to update their security systems.
Octagon continues to enjoy a considerable upsurge in sales.
